Chapter 10:
The bell rang. The three friends headed for lunch. They grabbed their trays and lined up. When it was their turn, the lunch lady put slimy green stuff onto their plates.
They wrinkled their noses.
“Gross! What is this stuff?” They walked to their table quietly. They looked miserably at their plates. Gwen poked her food. It was disgusting. They threw their lunches away.
“From now on, I’m going to bring a lunch from home!” said Tim.
As they were
walking down study hall, Brittany
“Ooops! How
clumsy of me. Sorry! You were right under my nose and I couldn’t see you!” she
said meanly. As she walked past them, Mandy whispered, “Well, at least I have a
real nose.” Gwen and Tim snickered. Brittany
“Ow! That hurt!” Mandy said. Tim’s nose was bleeding, Gwen’s lip was bleeding, and Mandy’s ear had a big scratch that was bleeding down her face.
“We’d better go to the nurse,” Tim suggested, looking at them.
They trudged to the Ms. Lopez’s office.
“Hello, children! Great to see you again! What seems to be the trouble?” She asked calmly, ignoring their wails.
“We just
got…” Gwen’s voice trailed off. If she told on Brittany
“We fell down on the bricks outside lining the street on the way to math class.
We… err…” Mandy said, hesitating.
“We tripped over each other. Mandy fell over a rock, Gwen tripped over her, and I followed suit and got a nosebleed,” Tim finished simply.
Gwen and Mandy beamed at him proudly.
By this time, Gwen was starting to feel dizzy.
“Can we please get a move on, then?” She asked impatiently.
“Oh! Right then!” Ms. Lopez said foolishly. She mopped them up, stuck Band-Aids on their wounds, and ushered them out.
“Have a nice day!” She yelled as she closed the door. They were walking to math class when Gwen spotted it.
“Hey, guys!” She shouted at them. (She had stopped but Mandy and Tim hadn’t noticed and had kept going.)
“Look at that van! It’s so pretty!”
It was a ‘70’s van, all rainbow and a picture of a man doing the disco. Underneath him was a name, but it was too hard to read. It looked like ‘Sheeba Dance Co.’
Mandy and Tim gasped in horror, running fast towards Gwen, but not fast enough to save her from the chubby hands swooping down and dragging her into the van. Gwen uttered a loud scream. The grubby man put his hand around her neck, pushing down, and Gwen’s body went limp. She half-screamed.
Too bad that wasn’t enough. Too bad it wasn’t enough to save her from the horror she would soon face.
yikes! what happened?
