Where have I been all week? I've been at work, where we have been conducting phone surveys of consumer protection boards in various states. Ultimately, our results will be ignored used by the state legislature in deciding whether to pass a bill. The project has been interesting the way baseball is interesting. You know what I mean. On the face of it, baseball, like politics, is stupefyingly dull, with everyone just standing around in the field, concentrating more or less on one person (who himself is receiving secret instructions from a shadowy figure we never even glimpse). Suddenly, someone makes a move! And there's a flurry of organized purpose! And an innocent bystander gets beaned! And people jump up and scream while buying overpriced food! And then ... all is quiet once more, and you wonder what the hell just happened, so you glue your eyes to the instant replay monitor and let professionals interpret the play for you. Yeah. Kind of like that.
On to the fun and games. Sorry in advance that there's rather a lot more reading here than in past weeks.
* The Pringles people drop a dime on their own cannister'd snack food. Did you know Pringles is only 40% potato - and potato powder at that? Bizarre.
Proctor & Gamble did not want Pringles to be considered potato chips - or potato crisps - so that the chips would be exempt from the snack tax. The company claimed that Pringles are not potato chips - or even like potato chips - since they are cooked from baked dough and not slices of potato.
Wait - I just realized that Pringles is manufactured by a soap company owned by the Devil. Crikey, that should have been our first clue Something was Wrong.
* Just in time for the Memorial Day weekend: the 33 healthiest foods. Oh, shoot. Sweet potatoes made the list, but Pringles did not. :-)

* And for my mother: the Humanities character might be killed off in PhD Comics. Stupid recession! [Part 1][Part 2][Part 3] [(next to) Last one - Oh, Gerard, if only you'd enlisted the help of a law student.] [Last one]
