In case you were wondering why I've been away from the blog this week, it's because I was hard at work on a project with a looming deadline. It's still looming, but one must keep up the traditions that make our lives full and rich, especially on Friday Caruso-Blogging Day.

Last night I failed to attend the first meeting of Sacramento-area Twitter-users. (To read how attendees thought it went, go here.)
My announced reason was that I prefer most of my Twitter follows just the way they are: imaginary. But the real reason was that I expected it would be a whole pub full of human beings I didn't know but would be expected to talk to. And that my end of every conversation would be one long repeat of this: "Hi, my name is Pam. Yes, I use Twitter! Yes, ha-ha, old people do know how to get online. I know, right? Should you be drinking that? Don't they card here?"
Plus, I don't watch Battlestar Galactica, so what would we have talked about after I'd checked everybody's driver's licenses?

In April, the Gloved One will auction off his prized possessions. Sure, there's a recession on. But some investments stand the test of time. They endure the vagaries of the economy, just like Neverland Ranch. Well, okay. Maybe there'll be lots of bidders from Dubai.

It's Saturday, and I couldn't decide which type of distraction to give you, so I'm posting both. You have plenty of time, right?
Play the escape game, and try to exit your office using just the items you find. This is a classic type of puzzle which we've all played before. Unfortunately, I have not yet solved it, and neither has my daughter, so you might just escape this morning before the both of us do. Go for it.

Happy furlough Friday! Most of my state worker readers are home today, I think, taking an unpaid day off. A few people work in departments that got exemptions. BB is working unpaid today at EDD. He has to bank his days off and take them later this year in one block. At his office's discretion. Nice, huh?
I think I mentioned, my tiny office also got an exemption and is doing business today. But as one of their few hourly employees, I still take the normal furlough days. So here I am, in my pajamas, on the computer at home, sharing the funnies. Let's see ...

Certain words have been stricken from the dictionary over the years, yet here - well, way over there - you can visit them, pet them, scratch them behind the ears, and pledge to use them in a sentence, to try and keep the words in our collective memory banks.
I bet if I dropped the word flosculation* in a staff meeting, half the group would still know the definition, and the other half would keep very, very quiet because they wouldn't want to let on they don't know it. Then they'd go back to their offices and try to look it up, but of course it wouldn't be in the dictionary. So they'd visit the Googles - and find this blog. It's the circle of life!
