For my mother, who feels that America made a big mistake in kicking out the Brits back in 1776, I give you Queen Elizabeth in her first televised Christmas address to the people, 1957.
Isn't she a dish? Ahem! Terribly sorry. Not that one expresses one's admiration of British royalty in such familiar terms.
I love how she informs us she's inviting us into her home for a few casual minutes, then proceeds to give the most stilted speech I've ever heard. More speeches and historical video footage may be found on the new Royal Channel. [via Neatorama]
I'm not finding her stilted so much as being a young head of state with no real power being very gracious, hopeful, trying a new medium and camoflaguing her 39 inch bust in a custom silk gown. But then, I'm an anglophile. I like how they put a flower arrangement in front of the pages she was turning and how promenant the baby pictures.

Aw, I think she's sweet! And that anxious and hopeful smile she flashes at the end just makes me want to root for her.
But, like Molly, I'm an anglophile. Plus, a new resident of the Commonwealth. God save her, indeed!

You're both right. It's clear I'm a damn Yankee. I'll cut her some slack.
