No, it's not just you. I read "The Children of Men," by P.D. James, earlier this year -- haven't seen the movie yet, though it's supposed to be quite different and quite good -- and this is part of her premise: the human presence is shrinking from the planet, and nature, or what we've made of it, is reasserting itself. Interesting thought, though I feel -- can you tell I live in Berkeley? -- like it's just another form of denial a la "hey, kids, our technology will fix everything!

Um, thanks for sharing that. I shouldn't have read it before bedtime. I'm going to end up with a dream akin to those I had growing up in the days of nuclear brinksmanship.
