So, our Budgets prof has already informed us through our syllabus that he wants us to stay abreast of events surrounding this year's budget rodeo through the Bee and through Rough and Tumble.
I've also been compiling a list of links to other state policy and/or opinion-based blogs having to do with CA policy. Maya, I think some of these will help us in getting acquainted with the issues.
California Insider: Dan Weintraub's op-ed blog is very mild-mannered - I won't call it bland because I'm so nice, you see - and it occasionally contains news of the budget and the Leg.
Capital Notes: A sort of a capitol watch blog, written by John Myers from KQED.
For The Rest Of Us: Sacramento-based therestofus.org keeps a blog that gives a liberal-leaning perspective on state politics. California shows up in the posts fairly frequently. Lately their focus has been campaign finance reform.
Local Liberty: A conservative-leaning blog started by The Claremont Institute. I've gotten the most out of their posts on reinventing CA government - and I found this entry particularly provocative.
Around The Capitol: Mainly a gossip blog, but it does carry a headline roundup similar to Rough and Tumble.
CaliCapia: Don't know much about it yet. The writer claims to offer opinion from a centrist POV. I got a kick out of his observation about the recent bill to require cigarettes sold in California be self-extinguishing:
We used to have non-burning cigarettes back in the fifties. They were usually found in a glass case, right next to the bubble gum cigars. We called them... candy.
I sense a new group blog idea forming....!

Nice links; if you like Weintraub but find him too bland, you might enjoy our new Bloginators effort.
