... the day when all CA civil servants' thoughts turn lightly to transferring out of their boring agencies, into new boring agencies!
Yes, the three-year hiring freeze is finally lifted. Open the chute, Curly! Let the roundup begin!
Okay, that's a gross exaggeration. There won't be a large number of job openings right away. What happened was, as agencies lost employees who quit, retired, transferred, etc., the money for those positions was absorbed back into the state's General Fund, or taken from the agency for spending elsewhere. Now, though the freeze is lifted, those agencies don't have the funds to replace every worker lost over the past three years.
Still, I'm optimistic. I just got the results back for the analyst exam I took in May - I passed, and even got a high enough score to be immediately "reachable". (Through the grapevine, I've heard I'm the only one in my office who is reachable - ::: snicker-snicker ::: snort ::: whups pardon my lapse of good grace there.) Reachable candidates will start receiving job notices soon. I already sent in an agreement to be interviewed for one promotion. I can also transfer my scores to a different agency if they'll have me.
I have no idea what, if anything, will result. It's good to have options all of a sudden, after years of essentially being stuck here.
The state will give you a reacharound? What?
My tax dollars at play!
