I learned a lot from the broadcast on NPR this morning, about the original, uncut version of “Godzilla” coming to American theatres. For instance, it seems that the movie’s creator had originally meant for the story about a gigantic, city-wrecking monster to be a meditation on the U.S. atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
But I bet that's small comfort to this guy.
Pam, could you please pose your monsters in a less suggestive way? I would hate to be forced into political commentary based solely on the grappling of Godzilla and, whoever it is. Rodan? Goppa? I can't keep all those monsters straight.

I agree. Those monsters appear to be more interested in their own pleasures than in wrecking the city. That first one is screaming.

Yeah, really! I thought this blog was supposed to be safe for work!

Ahem. Could we keep it down, please? This is a serious meditation!

Meditation on how we effed Hiroshima and Nagasaki in the a$$? I can see that.
Definitely not work safe! :)

Well, that's a surprise? Last time I saw the "Americanized" version on TV, the first thing that crossed my mind when I saw the opening shot of the radioactivity-scarred hospital patients was "that looks EXACTLY like the post-war documentary clips coming out of Japan." I've always suspected that Godzilla et al were covertly politicized comments on Japan's relationship to Western science in a post-Hiroshima climate.
"Oh no, there goes Tokyo/Go go Godzilla"
Apparently the BOC used to sing that song in Japan in laboriously memorized Japanese and the audiences would go insane. Now if only we could get Bjork to do all of her stuff in laboriously memorized Icelandic.
Does anyone know where I could get a Godzilla suit? THAT would make a way-cool birthday present, oh Erisian Goddess.....
As for the pose, well, as long as they're both consenting monsters, who are we to judge?
