Another zombie movie

It takes all sorts, doesn't it? Even in the world of film review. Here's The Passion of the Christ, reviewed as a legitimate zombie flick. Hmm, I wonder if I could watch it now.

The Passion of the Christ follows the torture and subsequent death and emergence as a zombie of one Jesus H. Christ, a poor, humble carpenter who has acquired a cult-like following of men he calls his “Disciples.” He is captured by the priests of the city Judaea, a fascist theocracy not unlike that of present day America, where he is subjected to torture and embarrassment for claiming to be the Son of God. It is not until the end of the film do we see any trace of a zombie, and it is only for a brief moment before the credits roll.

But what I didn't know is that the cars, lately owned by Department of General Services, are already up for bid on eBay. I'm going to watch the bids to see what we get. In honor of their web show's upcoming third season, The Guild teamed with director Jed Whedon to make their first music video.

I have to say, I have a real girl-crush on Felicia Day. She's taken all her hobbies (violin, singing, script-writing, MMORPG, social media) and mashed them up somehow with her acting. Now she has an nice eclectic career. Brilliant. Plus, how cute is she in this costume? She looks like she belongs on the cover of a new Anne McCaffrey book: Girl Band Of Pern.

Is the cinematic world ready for the dark, sordid origins of the Peanuts Gang? What if it were "written" by one Chris Nolan? Uh-huh, I thought so.

The script refers to Linus as "A bundle of neurosis possessing a knowledge far beyond his age or childish habits." Linus carries a blue blanket with him everywhere, and constantly changes the origin of his dependency each time he discusses it. One minute that blanket is the last thing his Dad ever gave to him, the next minute the blanket is cut from the tunic of the great and powerful Pumpkin Deity that appears once a calender year. Truly dark stuff, but Nolan squared and Goyer aren't afraid to go there.

Saturday: second chances, veiled threats & a nice dog joke

First of all, I realize I failed to put up my normal Friday Dog-Blogging post yesterday. I could make excuses, but I just plain forgot.

Secondly, when I went to put up an It's Saturday post this morning, Typepad suddenly humped a bunk and refused to save the blog entry. I got pissy, I'm afraid, and in a fit of pique, I left the internet entirely and visited the 3-D World, where I tasted chicken salad in Trader Joe's, and a nice man repaired a flat tire on my daughter's bike.

I'm back now and in a forgiving mood. Let's see if Typepad learned its lesson. This joke was sent to us by my sister in-law (and previously posted by Mom). So have some respect, Typepad. Ready, go.

A wealthy senior lady decides to go on a photo safari in  

Africa taking her faithful aged poodle named Cuddles

along for the company.

One day the poodle starts chasing butterflies and before long, Cuddles discovers that he's lost.  Wandering about, he notices a leopard heading rapidly in his direction with the intention of having lunch.

The old poodle thinks, 'Oh, oh! I'm in deep doo-doo now!'  Noticing some bones on the ground close by, he immediately settles down to chew on the bones with his back to the approaching cat.  

 

Just as the leopard is about to leap, the old poodle exclaims loudly, 'Boy, that was one delicious leopard!  I wonder if there are any more around here.'

Hearing this, the young leopard halts his attack in mid-strike,a look of terror comes over him and he slinks away into the trees.. 

'Whew!' says the leopard, 'That was close!  That old poodle nearly had me!'

Meanwhile, a monkey who had been watching the entire scene from a nearby tree figures he can put this knowledge to good use and trade it for protection from the leopard.  So off he goes,but the old poodle sees him heading after the leopard with great speed, and figures that something must be up.  

 

The monkey soon catches up with the leopard, spills the beans and strikes a deal for himself with the leopard.

The young leopard is furious at being made a fool of and says,'Here, monkey, hop on my back and see what's going to happen to that conniving canine!'

Now, the old poodle sees the leopard coming with the monkey on his back and thinks, 'What am I going to do now?', but instead of running, the dog sits down with his back to his attackers, pretending he hasn't seen them yet, and just when they get close enough to hear, the old poodle says:

'Where's that damn monkey?  I sent him off an hour ago to bring me another leopard!'

Your governor and mine (well, mine) took seriously a suggestion in his comment box that California start getting rid of waste by holding a garage sale. Check out the warehouse where the Department of General Services has begun to tag surplus items for the August 28th event.

I was not surprised to see hundreds of CPUs and scores of big wooden desks dating back to the Unruh era, but ... diamond rings and pianos? Would love to know the stories behind some of these state purchases.
